Susan Barrington, executive director for the Sedona Community Center, resigned from her position.

According to her letter of resignation, dated Oct. 5, Barrington said she no longer felt qualified for the executive director position due to the evolving nature of the job. Barrington will continue in her role until Sunday, Jan. 1. She’s held the position of executive director for the last six years.

The Oct. 5 resignation letter was addressed to Jeff Buresh, president of the Sedona Community Center Governing Board.

“As SCC has matured, so has the job description for the executive director. I no longer feel I embody the skill set demanded by this position. The most graceful act I can offer is to make room for a new administrator. I also offer my full assistance in the requisite transition if that is sanctioned by the board,” Barrington wrote in her letter.

She said she believes the mission of the center has never been more important.

“I have proudly watched the center grow over the past six years, and am convinced we are of greater service and a more vital mission currently than ever before,” Barrington wrote.

“What this center does is deeply important. I have always been sincere when I call the work here to be of a sacred nature.”

Barrington said she hopes to be involved in the transition process as the Governing Board seeks a replacement for her position.

“Hopefully we can have a real seamless transition, because that’s what’s important for the center,” Barrington said.

Buresh could not be reached for comment by press time.
