Thanks to the generosity of a New Mexico rancher, Boy Scouts of America Sedona Troop 48 had a great outdoor adventure in June.
For two weeks, eight Scouts and six adult leaders backpacked a 59-mile trail in Northeastern New Mexico at the Philmont Scout Ranch from June 7 through June 20. Each person carried a 45-pound pack with all of their gear and camped in areas ranging from desert to high mountains.
“The climate changed a lot. We hiked all the way up Mount Phillips to 11,741 feet. It got cold up there, but the view was worth the whole trip,” said Kevin Schweiss, one of the members of the troop. “It rained on us a few days, but we kept going. We were having fun.”
