Shana Cohen was out with her child at Sunset Park, enjoying the sun and staying active while keeping up with her child’s education.

Cohen home-schools her child through the local private Waldorf-style home-school method.

“The home-school meets here,” she said. “It gives her a chance to socialize with children she knows.”

Cohen said that the Waldorf method of teaching involves putting imagination into everything taught.

“Math and everything are always presented with stories. And then they’re able to really live and imagine into it, so when you bring in the concepts, it makes more sense,” Cohen said.

The biggest part of the education style for the teachers, including Cohen, was handling emotions, she said. In this sense, the teacher can remain calm and find different solutions to teaching when a child becomes frustrated.

“I love the responsibility,” she said.
