Wildland Firefighters battle the Yarnell Hill Fire, set off by a lightning strike on Friday, June 28. Six Sedona Fire District firefighters are among those on the fire line. Nineteen Hotshot firefighters from Prescott were killed by the fire on Sunday, June 30.Firefighters are a tight-knit group who put their lives on the line every day. So when one of their own dies in the line of duty, the loss is felt by all.

“This is a very tragic event that hits very close to home,” said Sedona Fire District Fire Chief Kris Kazian. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the Hotshot crew members, the Prescott Fire Department and with the residents of Yarnell and Prescott.”

On Sunday, June 30, 19 firefighters were killed while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire, which destroyed most of the small town near Prescott. Those killed were members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot Crew.
