The Arizona Department of Transportation wants more information before putting the West Sedona streetlights issue back into its five-year plan. The streetlights were among one of many items in the five-year plan at ADOT’s January statewide transportation board meeting. Several opponents to the lights traveled to the meeting in Casa Grande to give testimony and views on whether they are needed in West Sedona.
The transportation board voted 3-2 to not include it in its plan at this time because it would like more information by its Wednesday, Feb. 3, study session meeting. The earliest the light issue could be put back into the construction phase of the plan would be Wednesday, Feb. 17, since this is the meeting in February where the board can take action. Welborn said there were six projects in the priority planning committee and the board pulled the Sedona lights off the list to discuss it. After the discussion, a motion was made to approve putting all six projects, including the West Sedona lights into the five-year plan. The motion failed by a 3-2 vote. Welborn said the project is still very much in play and will be discussed again in about a week. “The project is tabled,” she said. “They asked for more information at the Feb. 3 meeting and will discuss whether to put it back [into the five-year] agenda.” She stressed the 3-2 vote in no way is a sign the ADOT board is opposed to or favors lights in West Sedona, adding it just wants additional information.

I would choose your dark sky fixture of your choice and retrofit it with LED's www.lowerkilowatts.com Is a company I am half owner of. My wife and I love Sedona and putting in any other type of un-natural lighting like HPS, Metal Halide, or Mercury vapor just adds to polluting our county and wasting Energy. All of our LED's are recyclable with no mercury or sodium in them. The LED's will make the environment they light up cleaner with better visibility. As the manufacturer we will sell direct and a a price that will cover our cost and overhead. 608-643-5000
