Those who plan to hike Bell Rock or Little Horse on Monday, May 23, may want to think about alternative parking options.

Trailheads will close temporarily May 23 at both the Bell Rock and Little Horse hiking entrances.

According to Connie Birkland, public affairs specialist with the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, the two trailheads will be shut down for approximately four hours to allow work crews to complete parking lot striping projects at the two locations. Work is expected to begin at 10 a.m. on May 23.

“In an effort to provide improved public safety and upgraded parking conditions, the Little Horse and Bell Rock Pathway trailheads will be temporarily closed Monday, May 23. Specific improvements will include striping for individual vehicle parking at the Little Horse Trailhead and striping to delineate bus parking at the Bell Pathway Trailhead,” Birkland said.

The improvements, she said, have been made possible through revenue generated by the Red Rock Pass program.
