A Camp Verde teen was arrested on several charges following the theft of two vehicles in Sedona.
According to Sedona Police Sgt. Jim Pott, 19-year-old Joel T. Beauty was arrested on Friday, Nov. 3, and was charged with three counts of burglary from a motor vehicle, four counts of theft, three counts of criminal damage and three counts of endangerment.
Just before 3:30 p.m. Beauty allegedly stole an Arizona Water Company truck from a job site at Tlaquepaque, according to police. He fled the scene in the truck driving the wrong way up State Route 179. He dropped the truck off at the Oak Creek School District offices on Brewer Road and then stole a black Honda Accord.
Pott said the keys were in both vehicles. Officers located the Honda and a high-risk stop was initiated in the Garlands parking lot on Schnebly Hill Road. “When officers initiated the high-risk stop, they drew their pistols and gave verbal commands to the suspect to exit the vehicle,” Pott said.
“He refused to comply and ignored commands given to him. He eventually surrendered and when questioned, he told officers that he ignored the commands because he was contemplating stepping out of the car pretending he was holding a gun so officers would shoot him.”
Beauty was taken to the Coconino County Jail, police said.
