Over the last nine years, the Sedona Park Rangers have volunteered thousands of hours, answered countless questions from visitors and have lent a helping hand for a variety of community events.

And, 2015 was no exception.

Wayne Ranney traveled to one of the most rugged landscapes in the world in a vessel so luxurious it was named “The World.”

Ranney, a well-known geologist in the Verde Valley, presented his trip to Antarctica to the Sedona Welcomers on Jan. 27 at the Sedona Hilton Resort at Bell Rock in the Village of Oak Creek.

The members of SedonaKind have no intention of leaving Valentine’s Day to Hallmark — they’re hearkening back to the 18th century in order to make the holiday special for Sedona residents.

Sedona Red Rock High School recently performed well at the Arizona Music Educators Association High School All-Region Orchestra Auditions, held at Coconino High School in Flagstaff.

Senior Cosmo Illenberger especially stood out at the performance.

A group of women mountain bikers is traveling to Nepal to help earthquake disaster relief, making a documentary in the process.

They will be starting their filming at the Sedona Mountain Bike Festival, which runs Friday through Sunday, March 4 through 6. Shortly after, they will fly to Nepal to begin their efforts in earnest.

Following a brief hiatus, the Sedona Police Department’s Explorers program is back and stronger than ever.

“It gives them a good understanding as to how we function,” SPD’s Lt. Lucas Wilcoxson said of the program he started 16 years ago for teens and young adults ages 14 to 21.

Local professional photographer Derek Von Briesen recently added another spread to his published work, this time a package of photos from Red Rock Crossing in Arizona Highways February edition.Red Rock Crossing was the subject of Derek Von Briesen’s feature in the February issue of Arizona Highways magazine. Von Briesen said it was a privilege to know his work has inspired others.Von Briesen began working with photography professionally shortly after moving to Sedona in 2003.
