Here at the Art Barn, we keep an open door for creative people, ideas, and proposals. In fact, each and every day we meet artists who come in and share their thoughts on community development, collaboration, and new ways of engaging others in the arts. As your local creative hub, part of our mission is to nurture, cultivate, and advance great ideas. Thoughts on a Creative New Year from Eric Holowacz, Executive Director

In 1958, in the small town that was then Sedona, some very visionary people decided that our community needed a creative hub. They were artists, sculptors, civic leaders, educators, business owners and—whether they knew it or not—our town’s pioneers in cultural development.

Our banks keep an eye on our accounts and let us know when we might be overstepping our balance. We have check-ups with our medical doctor and dentist to keep our systems in balance. We might even have a personal trainer, who helps us to be physically strong.

Have you seen Dr. Love lately?  Actually she does home visits. About every year and a half Dr. Love comes a knocking…taking your love temperature and doing x-rays. Her real name is Venus, and when she takes a break from pulling us forward in life to check on us more individually, deeply and personally, she is called Venus Retrograde. 

Year end totals show an interesting set of facts (Not alternative facts) as to where buyers of Sedona Real estate originate.  Granted, the data isn't from ALL purchases, rather from a sample size of approximately 25% of all purchases in 2016... and with a sample size so large we should be able to use this data as indiciative of the overall market.  The shocking part of the study shows that 54% of all Sedona purchases are made by Arizona residents.  The second largest group of buyers came from California with 15% of all buyers, then all other states make up the remaining percentages.  An underwhelming percentage of buyers came in internationally -  approximately 1% of our buyers were from out of country.  So, those sellers waiting for an international buyer would do much better to hope for an AZ buyer - there's a lot more of those around than the occasional Canadian, European, Russian or Asian Buyer.  Selling agents would be doing their clients a favor to keep the marketing dollars focused on in state buyers! 

Sedona Arts Center Offering Professional Development for Artists


To help develop the creative community in 2017, Sedona Arts Center is offering a series of free "Business of Art" workshops that cover essential topics to artists of every kind.
This community outreach program is made possible thanks to support from the City of Sedona, Kling Family Foundation, and Arizona Commission on the Arts—as well as the generous members and patrons of Sedona Arts Center. 

Sedona Arts Center and Sedona Culture Collaborative Launch New Networking Meals

The Sedona Arts Center and Sedona Culture Collaborative have partnered to present a series of informal luncheons for any and all local arts leaders, as a way to share ideas, network with others, and connect the creative community. The first Arts Leaders Luncheon will be held at the Golden Goose American Grill in West Sedona on Wednesday, January 18 and costs $12 per person.
