Greater Sedona residents have the opportunity Wednesday, Oct. 11, to share their future vision for the Coconino National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service is currently in the process of revising the Coconino National Forest Management Plan, which

outlines overall management of the 1.8-million-acre Coconino National Forest.

Wednesday’s meeting, to be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Cliff Castle Casino, is part of the first series in a five-round series of public meetings that will be held at different locations throughout Coconino National Forest in coming months.

During this first round of public meetings, which started Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Blue Ridge, third-party facilitators brought in by the U.S. Forest Service are canvassing participants’ overall views of what works for Coconino National Forest, what the forest should look like in 20 years and what types of changes could be made to achieve that vision.

The public feedback will be processed and used during the next round of public meetings, set to begin in November.

“All of the parts of how we develop the plan are meant to be done in a collaborative, open process,” said Katherine Farr, forest planner for Coconino National Forest, during a Wednesday, Oct. 4, public meeting in Flagstaff.

“We want to listen to your ideas and your thoughts and share with you, throughout the process, how your comments are being handled and where they end up,” Farr said.

“If you choose to stay involved throughout the process, you can have a lot of influence on what comes out,” Farr said.

Strategic Forest Plan revision is mandated under the National Forest Management Act of 1976.
