On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Sedona Red Rock News received second place for best use of photography at the Arizona Newspapers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
In addition to the newspaper-wide award, photojournalist Mal Cooper was awarded first place for Best Feature Photograph Layout and also took home third place for Best News Photograph.
Copy editor Christopher Fox Graham received second place in the best headline category for the entry, “Ban smoking, then ban trees and meat.”
The Sedona Red Rock News competed with newspapers with circulations between 3,500 and 10,000 readers.
The Arizona Newspapers Association is a nonprofit trade association representing more than 120 Arizona newspapers.
Members of the Kansas Newspaper Association judged entries in this year’s competition, according to the ANA.
