WSS beat previously undefeated Camp Verde Middle School 5-3 on April 5, proving, much like winning the second contest against Big Park Community School earlier this season, they are tough to beat back to back. Camp Verde defeated WSS earlier this year.

This time at home, the Wildcats got an early lead. Kyl Chartier mashed a three-run homer to left field after Troy Loparco and Ryan Lillie reached.

Though that hit may have been the most dramatic, game-winning contact was made in the third.

Loparco led off the frame with a hit, stole second and Arley Leyra got him home with a single to give WSS a 4-1 lead they would not give away.

Insurance was provided in the fifth with the team up 4-3, when J.R. Henry hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Chartier.

Loparco upped his record to 2-0 on the mound after going all five innings and striking out eight. Loparco is hitting .567 on the season.

WSS ended the game with the two-hour time limit.

?I told the kids we got to work the count. I tried to coach them through to the time limit and that?s what happened. All the kids worked the count,? Vincent Loparco Jr. said.

According to Loparco Jr., Seth Giorgianni made a great put-out in right field, Javi Fimbres played a solid second base, Sam Davis made sure all the throws were caught at first, Tyler Hollman made a heads-up play at second and Ryan Bouchard and David Lamparter made sure their teammates were alert from the bench.

WSS will host a doubleheader against Oak Creek School on Thursday, April 19.
