Black Raven is a band formed by Daniel Hicks and Charles Button and dedicated to expressing the wild beauty of the Southwest and American Indian culture. They will debut their new album, “First Flight,” at Canyon Moon Theatre in the Village of Oak Creek at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 28.

This music is a contender in five categories in this year’s Native American Music Awards.

Hicks has been performing at wedding ceremonies, motivational conferences, concerts and American Indian gatherings since 1997. His cedar wood American Indian flutes are handmade and tuned to concert pitch tuning.

Button is a recording artist, actor and vocalist. Known for his silky voice, he has performed in the United States and Europe. He closed the show for the 2002 Native American Grammy Nomination Showcase in Hollywood, Calif. He has had his original music featured in films and on television.

Joining Hicks and Button for this evening will be three talented musicians: Will Clipman, Danni Odudua and Mark Thomas.

Clipman is a master of indigenous instruments and has recorded more than 50 albums. He currently records and performs with the R. Carlos Nakai Quartet and many others. Clipman’s music has been honored with four Grammy Award nominations for best New Age album, a NAMA for the best instrumental album and a Times Argus Grammy Award for best drummer.

Odudua is a percussionist and singer. He has opened for the Neville Brothers, Steele Pulse and Rita Marley.
