The Sedona Juniors baseball team wrapped up its season on June 15 against the Camp Verde Reds and won 6-4.  The win improves the Sedona team’s record to 14-2 on the season.

The game actually only lasted into the bottom of the fourth inning, as there were many subplots beneath the game.

Sedona had several players that had to leave due to personal reasons, and Manager Rob Henry tried to reschedule the game for 4 p.m. instead of the normal 5 p.m. start time.

Both sides were in agreement for the start time.

The Reds were late, however, and the game didn’t even begin until 5:20 p.m.

“I was going to cancel the game when I found out the Reds didn’t have enough players earlier in the day. But they said they were ready to go, so we played,” Henry said.

Sedona had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth and were already up 6-4 with no one out.

Henry couldn’t wait any longer and walked out of the home dugout and simply said, “That’s it.”

“We weren’t going to even play this game due to the lack of players on the Camp Verde side, but we tried it,” Henry said.

“We just couldn’t wait any longer. We ran out of time and the boys had to go,” he added.

So Henry called the game four innings in, at 6:30 p.m., as it was time for his boys to leave.

One notable for Sedona was Tyler Hollmann, who was the starting pitcher for the game.

Hollmann pitched four innings, gave up four hits and five walks and struck out six batters while allowing only four runs to cross the plate.

Hollmann also did it with the bat, as he was 2-3 with one run scored and one run knocked in.

Blake Baker, the Sedona lead-off hitter, also got in on the action, as he was 1-3 with a run batted in.

The Reds did not play all that well, as their pitcher walked eight Sedona batters and the defense committed three errors in the field.

With the season now complete, Sedona will look forward to all-stars competition beginning Friday, July 6, in Cottonwood.

All-star play consists of all teams in the district playing for one spot to go down to Phoenix and compete for nationals.

“We are excited to represent the town of Sedona,” Henry said.
