The Sedona Red Rock High girls soccer team shut out Verde Valley School for the second time in six days after winning at home on Monday, Sept. 24, 7-0.
"We played solid defense and our offense was stellar as always," Sedona head coach Tom Cadigan said.
The win improves Sedona’s record to 9-1 [4-0] on the season.
This Scorpions team had a slightly different look to it compared to the last match up between these two schools.
Cadigan and his coaching staff gave seven junior varsity players the opportunity to get varsity game experience.
Freshman Brittany Wickham, playing in her first varsity game for Sedona, wasn’t nervous at all as she scored two goals to help lead her team to victory.
"It was good to get the young girls some experience, and Brittany [Wickham] played very well," Cadigan said.
Wickham’s freshman teammate Alex Sersesun scored a goal as well, leaving no doubt this team is strong from top to bottom.
"We have plenty of talent from our veterans to our young kids on this team," Cadigan said.
Five others scored a goal for the Scorpions against VVS on Monday, proving time and time again these girls are back for another run at a state title.
Juniors Lili Middleton and Danielle Holman scored and sophomores Brianna Binder and Jessie Powers added to their season goals scored as well.
Leading shot takers Breanne Cunningham and Jessica Garnello combined for 12 shots on goal, but did not score.
Cadigan is fine with that result, as he says the goals will come in time for those two.
The Scorpions out shot the Coyotes 37-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Emma Kukulski played the full 80 minutes against the Coyotes, recording one save and the shut out.
"Our team is on a roll right now, we’ve only lost one game all season," senior striker Courtney Fitzpatrick said.
The Scorpions were in action on Thursday, Sept. 27, against Desert Christian High.
Results were not available at press time.
Next up, the Scorpions will travel to Prescott and play Chino Valley High on Monday, Oct. 1.
Scheduled start time is set for 3 p.m.
