The Scorpions overcame adversity and kicked around River Valley High on their home field Saturday, Oct. 6, 5-0.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, Sedona played host to cross-town rival Camp Verde High and disposed of them, 3-0.

“I’m glad we’re back to our winning ways,” Sedona head coach Tom Cadigan said.

With the two wins, Sedona improves its record to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in region play.

Against River Valley, Sedona put constant pressure on the Dust Devil defensive front and was able to penetrate quite easily.

Courtney Fitzpatrick, Danielle Holman and Kelly Zarcone each scored one goal and team captain Kelly Cadigan scored two in the 5-0 win.

“We challenged the goalie a lot more then we have the past two weeks,” Tom Cadigan said.

Sedona took 27 shots on goal compared to only six by River Valley.

The defense was strong again and goalkeeper Jessica Garnello recorded two saves.

In the second half, Emma Kukulski recorded three saves as goalkeeper.

Tuesday night against Camp Verde, the Scorpions stepped up against their rivals with strong passing and even stronger team work.

“We are playing good team ball right now,” Kelly Cadigan said.

All three goals were scored in the first half as Zarcone had two and junior striker Breanne Cunningham had one.

“The girls got some things together and were able to go out and get a win,” Cadigan said.

The Scorpions had 26 shots on goal compared to only nine by Camp Verde.

In the goal, Garnello was stellar once again with three saves, and second-half hero Kukulski had five saves.

The Scorpions will travel and play in the Camp Verde High tournament Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13.

The remaining region game will be at home against Chino Valley High on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Game time is set for 5 p.m.

Desert Christian High and Chino Valley High are tied atop the region at 7-1. Sedona stands in third place at 7-2.

Chino Valley and Desert Christian control their own destiny and play each other Monday, Oct. 15.

That game may very well decide the regional championship as Sedona can only hope for a three-way tie for first place.
