“We started two weeks ago and so far, we’re right on schedule,” said Brian Kenoyer, superintendent of the job. “Our deadline is the first of the year.”
According to Denis Butin, owner of Seneca Design Materials, the company that’s supplying materials for the job, synthetic stucco has many advantages.
“The biggest advantage is its quality of shedding water. In a freeze-dry climate like Sedona, that’s a critical factor,” Boutin said.
Aesthetics are another benefit.
While cementatious stucco frequently has bald spots and spots with heavy concentrations of sand, synthetics do not.
With integral color, the synthetics are also supposed to negate the need for re-painting.
Although employees at the complex have to tiptoe around scaffolding and the dozen construction workers clambering up and down the walls, they say it’s going well.
“The construction men have been very accommodating. If we need access to a door that’s been taped off, they open it right up,” said D’Nell Monroe, administrative assistant in the office of the city manager.
