The Yavapai County WAC is committed to preserving sustainable water resources for future generations while enhancing the economic viability of our county.

The committee is dedicated to meeting the long-term water resource needs of our customers, the residents of Yavapai County.

The WAC will accomplish its goals by developing and enacting a total water management strategy through a consensus of our coalition members.

2 p.m.: Introductions

2 to 2:05 p.m.: Approve meeting minutes for Dec. 19 regular meeting.

2:05 to 2:15 p.m.: Informational reports.

2:15 to 2:25 p.m.: Coordinators report.

2:25 to 2:40 p.m.: Discussion and possible action on the  appointment of new co-chairs, discuss meeting locations and other business.

2:40 to 3:30 p.m.: Discussion and possible action on possible projects and priorities for 2008:

1. Complete Central Yavapai Highlands Water Resource Management Study, the Regional Planning and Management Study that assembles into one document our knowledge on the resource, the demands, and alternatives for meeting long term needs. Funding: WAC funds not to exceed $300,000 over 3 to year life of project.

2. Complete Northern Arizona Regional Groundwater Flow Model, which sets out water budgets, existing and future conditions, predictive capabilities, and identification of knowledge limitations. Funding is a cost share by U.S. Geological Survey for $40,000 for 2008.

3. Complete scenario development, which advances understanding of community growth projections and water to use projections. Funding is $5,000 outstanding.

4. Continue monitoring and data gaps, which helps to develop accurate data records, aids in creating water budgets, provides basis to answer questions related to water management. Funding is $50,000 with $40,000 match from USGS.

5. Survey Verde Valley and tributaries seepage for 2007, which aids in calculating water budgets, creating models and regional planning, provides better understanding of that part of water budget for use in regional groundwater model. Provides reconnaissance of the system and location of key monitoring sites and water chemistry data and analyses. Funding is $42,000 in 2007.

6. Finish Phase 1 of Verde Valley surface water model, which aids in calculating water budgets, creating models and regional planning, provides better understanding of that part of water budget for use in regional groundwater model. Provides reconnaissance of the system and location of key monitoring sites and water chemistry data and analyses. Funding is $17,171 outstanding.

7. Continue water conservation programs. Funding is $2,000 for water festival.

8. Continue education of public and WAC on water issues. Funding is $11,750 through June 2008.

9. Finish draft of 2007 Annual Report.

10. Make Web site more useful.

11. Plan possible legislation to advance WAC priorities.

3:30 to 3:45 p.m.: Discussion and possible action on future agenda items, speakers and topics

3:45 to 3:55 p.m.: Discussion and possible action on annual report update with comments on draft.

3:55 to 4 p.m.: Set date, time, location and agenda items for the next meeting

The Jan. 16 meeting takes place at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building on South 6th Street in Cottonwood.
