The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services made patient satisfaction surveys of all the nation’s hospitals available on-line Friday, March 28, Michael Leavitt, the secretary of health and human services, announced.
Surveys completed by patients of Verde Valley Medical Center are included.
The primary hospital care provider in Greater Sedona and the Verde Valley, VVMC met or exceeded the state and national average rating in most categories.

According to the report:
Nearly 75 percent of patients reported VVMC nurses “always” communicated well. Another 77 percent said VVMC doctors “always” communicated well.
Sixty-five percent of all VVMC patients who participated in the survey reported they “always” received help as soon as they wanted.
Just over 70 percent of VVMC patients reported their pain was “always” well controlled.
Only 57 percent of VVMC patients reported that staff “always” explained about medicines before giving it to them.
The percent of VVMC patients who reported their room and bathroom were “always” clean was 67 percent.
A little less than 80 percent of VVMC patients confirmed they were given information about what to do during their recovery at home.
Sixty-six percent of VVMC patients gave VVMC the highest rating of 10 on a scale of 0 to 10.
Another 68 percent said they would definitely recommend the hospital.
The information, collected from thousands of hospitals and qualifying clinics, is now posted on a federal government Web site, www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
