On Tuesday, Aug. 26, at approximately noon, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a vehicle burglary that occurred at the Bell Rock Trailhead in the Village of Oak Creek.
The victim had parked her black Hyundai sedan at the trailhead around 8 a.m., and when she returned at 11:30 a.m., she found that unknown suspects smashed out a vehicle window and stole several items of personal property.
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, at approximately noon, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a vehicle burglary that occurred at the Bell Rock Trailhead in the Village of Oak Creek.
The victim had parked her black Hyundai sedan at the trailhead around 8 a.m., and when she returned at 11:30 a.m., she found that unknown suspects smashed out a vehicle window and stole several items of personal property.
The victim lost her check book and wallet, which contained $100 in cash and numerous credit cards. The deputy provided the victim with phone numbers for the credit card companies and suggested she call right away to prevent identity theft from these accounts.
YCSO reminds visitors and residents alike to avoid leaving valuables in vehicles while parked at any trailhead area. Unfortunately, there are thieves who canvas the trailheads looking for unattended vehicles with the knowledge that many of the owners will be gone for extended periods of time while hiking or camping. If you must store valuables in the car, keep them out of view and lock them in the trunk. Better yet, bring only what you need when traveling in these areas and take identification and credit cards with you.

If you notice a suspicious vehicle with occupants in trailhead parking areas, note the license plate number and report your findings to law enforcement.
