Young Bear Shot Dead1 min read

Deputies shot and killed a young black bear in Cornville Monday, June 15, after the bear attacked and killed a goat and spent the weekend losing its fear of people, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Calls started coming in on Friday, June 12, YCSO reported, but the bear was exhibiting a natural fear of humans and ran away. By Sunday night, June 14, however, the bear was drinking from hoses in back yards, eating berries, and was seen looking into a resident’s window.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office personnel, first on the scene Monday morning after the bear killed a goat on a residential property, contacted the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Based on recent behavior, Game and Fish advised officers to take a shot if one presented itself.
