The Arizona Department of Transportation continues to make improvements to State Route 179, though it will take the July 4 weekend off, much to the relief of Sedona motorists.

ADOT periodically updates residents on the progress of its work on the highway and gives notice about the location and timing of upcoming projects. The following projects are anticipated for the upcoming week:

Bowstring Drive Closure

Bowstring Drive closure will occur again next week to continue the new Arizona waterline hookup. After successful pressure testing, the new waterline will become fully operational and Bowstring Drive will re-open. The neighborhood can also be accessed by Arrow.

Oak Creek Bridge Work

Drilled shafts for pier two and abutment two on the west half of the bridge are in progress.

Pedestrian Bridge

at Oak Creek

The pedestrian bridge is complete; however, there were complications with the city of Sedona sewer line installation at Schnebly Hill Road. The sewer is now operational and all of the utilities will be buried and a portion of the sidewalks approaching the pedestrian bridge will be poured. A temporary access to the pedestrian bridge will be open for the July Fourth weekend.

Wall Work at

Poco Diablo

Minor lane shifts have occurred and construction of retaining walls adjacent to Poco Diablo have begun. Access to Poco Diablo at Doodlebug and Oak Creek Cliffs will remain open.

Holiday Weekend

Work Hours

Construction work will wrap up by 12 p.m. on Friday, July 3, and resume on Monday, July 6, at 6 a.m. Please have a safe and fun holiday weekend

Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment and personnel availability. Arizona Department of Transportation tries to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
