SMSP nominates seven for awards2 min read

Sedona Main Street Program is honored to submit seven nominations for the 2009 Arizona Main Street Awards.

According to a press release, it is a great opportunity to give recognition to the people who contribute to and invest in our community by giving their time, effort, passion and dollars to make the Sedona Main Street District a special place. Please join us in acknowledging all of the nominees.

These annual awards have been presented to Arizona Main Street Communities since 1992.

There are nine awards for 2009, in four categories that relate to the National Main Street Four-Point approach: Organization, Business Enhancement, Design and Promotion.

The nominees include: The Athenour Family for Business Excellence Award; Sedona Chamber Visitor Center for Best Economic Restructuring Project; Sedona Trolley for Best Small Scale Renovation; Matterhorn Inn for Best

Large Scale Renovation; Orchards Inn for Best

Large Scale Renovation; Main Street Sense of Place Banners for Best Promotion Materials; and St. Patrick’s Day Festival for Best Special Event.

Finalists are expected to be announced early August, in anticipation of the Awards Ceremony during Governor’s Regional Rural Development Conference, Wednesday, Aug. 26, through Friday, Aug. 28. Gov. Brewer is expected to  recognize all finalists and announce the award winners during the Governor’s Luncheon at the conference on Friday, Aug. 28.

The 2009 Governor’s Rural Development Conference theme is “Many Communities — One Arizona.” Economic developers, business leaders, community leaders and stakeholders from across the state will gather at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield.

Sedona Main Street Program is one of the 15 Main Street Communities in Arizona. The Arizona Main Street Program, under the direction of Program Coordinator Lisa Henderson, is part of the Arizona Department of Commerce/Rural Development Office. Each community has the opportunity to submit nominations.

All nominations are evaluated and voted upon by a selected panel of impartial judges. Sedona Main Street Program has been honored with finalists and winners of the Annual Arizona Main Street Awards each year since 1997, the year after its inception.
