Pending favorable conditions this week, several prescribed burns are planned for the Coconino National Forest.

In the Peaks and Mormon Lake Districts, watch for the following burns:

• East Side Project — 300 acres; about five miles east of East Flagstaff, between I-40 and Old Walnut Canyon Road. Smoke may be visible from I-40 and Walnut Canyon area.
• Ritter Project — 300 acres; about 10 miles south of Flagstaff, east of I-17 at Newman Park exit. Smoke may be visible from I-17 and Munds Park.

In the Mogollon Rim District, watch for the following burns:

• Imax Project — up to 2,000 acres; about six miles northwest of Clints Well. This maintenance burn mimics fire’s natural cycle. Forecast winds are expected to carry smoke north. Smoke may be visible from FH 3 and I-17 and drain into West Clear Creek overnight.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel; weather, which includes ventilation conditions; and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
