The living room of the Schwartz home is decorated with origami cranes.

Those cranes, made by friends and family members, served as something to do while family members awaited word on Jim Schwartz. The creation of 1,000 origami cranes is also widely believed to assist in recovery from injury or illness.

Schwartz, who went missing Oct. 19, was found by a volunteer searcher April 7 in the Woods Canyon area 8 miles from the Village of Oak Creek, 3 miles off the established trail. His remains were identified April 12, though a cause of death has not yet been determined. Those results are expected in the coming months. Family members and friends will hold a celebration of life for Schwartz on Saturday, May 5. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, located off State Route 179 at 25 Chapel Road.
