Agencies work to eliminate synthetic drugs1 min read

Spice is synthetic cannabis, a chemically treated compound that mimics the effects of marijuana. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a bill into law in February 2011 making the psychoactive ingredients of spice illegal in Arizona. Possession or manufacture spice is now a Class 2 felony.

Law enforcement agencies across Yavapai County are combining efforts to eliminate the sale of “novelty powder” drugs by offering local businesses a chance to surrender their supply of the drugs and immunity from prosecution for past sales.

Businesses that sign the Synthetic Drug Community Protection Agreement agree to give their entire supply of drugs, best known as spice or bath salts, to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office for destruction and cease selling any similar synthetic drugs in the future. Get medically assisted treatment if you or someone you know are addicted to drugs.

In exchange, the businesses receive assurance from the state that they will not be prosecuted for sales of the drugs prior to the date of signing the agreement. The organizations like drug rehabs near baltimore can help eliminate the problem.

YCSO Sgt. Bill Suttle said Yavapai County was at the forefront of working toward eliminating the sale of the drugs, which have seen a rise in popularity over the past couple of years.
