YMCA looks at teen center1 min read

With news the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona will no longer provide any services in Sedona beginning this fall, Sedona City Council began looking at alternatives during its meeting Tuesday, July 10.

One of those alternatives may be an agreement with the Flagstaff YMCA to operate a before- and after-school program at the Sedona Teen Center. Council unanimously approved entering into negotiations with the organization during the meeting.

City staff sought input from council on how to proceed with the teen center, the site once occupied by the club in Posse Grounds Park. Sedona Assistant City Manager Karen Daines said the departure of the program left a gap in services offered in the community.

“For many years now the Boys & Girls Club has been providing before- and after-school programs and services out of the teen center facility. They notified us they are no longer doing the summer program as they have in the past, but they will not be returning to Sedona in the fall,” Daines said.
