Golfers from all over the Southwest were chased off the course by the start of the monsoon on the last day of the Sedona Open.

With only about two hours left of play, a thunderstorm quickly rolled in, causing the tournament to be delayed two hours.

“The delay hindered me a little bit,” said Chris Satterlee, of California. “I’m a player that gets in a groove when I’m playing, so it was a little tough to bounce back.”

The Sedona Open, the only professional golf event in Northern Arizona, had 102 golf pros and amateurs from the Southwest play in the three-day tournament held at a Village of Oak Creek golf course July 10 through Thursday, July 12.

David McDaniel, of Tucson, won the Open and a $4,000 first-place prize. McDaniel shot a final round of 64 for a three-day total of 200. He won by just two strokes over Satterlee. Michael Hopper of Phoenix left in third place with a score of 204.
