When Gregory Strickling moved to Sedona this summer, he brought his Nike-sponsored Gregory Strickling Basketball, or GSB, program with him.

With that, Sedona’s youth have opportunities that spark their motivation to be the best student athletes and possibly use their skills and talent to get a college education and reach for even higher goals.

One of those opportunities was getting to hear from former Arizona State University baseball coach and living baseball legend Bobby Winkles.

Winkles, who is now a Sedona resident, visited GSB at Sedona Red Rock High School on Sunday, Aug. 19, to speak to the boys and girls of the GSB club basketball teams, as well as to members of the community, about success in life and in sports.

“First-hand experiences are perfect to inspire kids,” said Amy Parrella, who was at the speech with her family. “It was just awesome to have someone from this level come and talk to the kids of Sedona. How lucky were they?”
