The Scorpions’ outstanding offense, good communication and skill to keep volleys alive forced their enemy to surrender in just three sets, keeping their perfect record untouched.

The Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball team hosted its rival, the Mingus Union High School Marauders on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and the undefeated Scorpions [4-0] denied the Marauders [2-4] one set win. The Scorpions won the game, 3-0.

SRRHS Head Coach John Parks was pleased with his players’ performance, but he knew the MUHS team was not playing at its full potential.

“We caught Mingus on an off-night,” Parks said. “I know they are better than that, but the quickness of our offense and better communication kept us in the lead. We’ve been working on playing faster.”

“We were off for sure,” Marauders’ Head Coach Brian Herman said. “Our passing wasn’t what it needed to be. Our defense wasn’t what it needed to be. When we put everything together, we are a really strong team, but we haven’t been able to put it together against the matches we need to.”

In the first set, the Scorpions dominated the scoreboard, never allowing the Marauders to get within two points of their score. Throughout the entire set, Sierra Hatler, Tiana Hatler and McKenna Woodford played strong defense at the net. Awkward hits and overhitting plagued the Marauders, only adding to the Scorpions’ score.
