The city of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department offers new and fun fitness programs for Sedona residents of all ages.

Sacred Circus Arts and dance classes, including ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz and technique, are two of the classes Parks and Recreation will be providing this fall for anyone who wants to work out in a different way. The Sacred Circus Arts class is starting this month while dance classes will not begin until October.

Sacred Circus Arts is a class that teaches hula hooping, juggling and other circus-related activities mixed with yoga. The instructor of the class, Andrea Murphy, is both a teacher and student of hatha yoga, martial arts, circus arts and birth arts, and she enjoys teaching the class.

“There isn’t much else out there that gives me more joy as when I share the tools that help me to live an embodied, joyful life, and I staunchly refuse to do anything for a living that doesn’t absolutely fascinate me,” Murphy said. “Teaching Sacred Circus Arts is an outlet that combines my 15 cumulative years of the study of yoga and martial arts with pure playfulness.

“The result is genius, if I may say so myself, for what can be more productive and enlightening than learning how to meditate without even knowing that one is learning how to meditate?”
