The Scorpions are on a three-game winning streak and feeling pretty good about themselves after beating one of their biggest rivals Friday, Sept. 21.

The Sedona Red Rock High School  Scorpions [3-2] traveled into enemy territory where when they took on the Camp Verde Cowboys [0-5] on Camp Verde’s Homecoming night. The Scorpions beat the Cowboys for the first time in seven years, 22-14.

Scorpion Keenan Crans returned to the gridiron as quarterback after a knee injury in Sedona’s August opener sidelined him for a couple of weeks.

The Cowboys got possession of the ball first, but the strong Sedona defense let them know they were going to make it difficult and forced them to punt.

On offense, a bad snap caused the Scorpions to fumble and lose 14 yards followed by a series of no-gain downs and a punt. However, the Cowboys fumbled the ball on the return and the Scorpions recovered it on Camp Verde’s 42-yard line. Running back Ryan Ramirez made some good gains, but big hits and an illegal procedure penalty forced the Scorpions to punt.

The Cowboys scored two touchdowns on their next two drives. The first was a five-yard touchdown run followed by a 20-yard touchdown pass. The Cowboys made a two-point conversion on the first one, but the Scorpions blocked their second two-point conversion attempt.
