Soccer teams win gold at debut tournament1 min read

The Northern Arizona Estudantez Clube do Futebol U16 and U12 teams both won big in their tournament debut.

The Soccer at the Summit tournament in Flagstaff on Sept. 15 and 16 hosted 76 boys soccer teams from Arizona, Colorado and Nevada. The U16 and U12 teams of the Northern Arizona Estudantez Clube do Futebol returned home to Sedona with gold medals around their necks, winning their first tournament with the new club.

“I’m very proud of the boys,” Head Coach Juan Carlos Aguilar said. “They practice and work hard to get where they are. They are very dedicated soccer boys.

“The star players of this tourney goes out to my defenders: Oscar Miranda, Jordon Rivera, Alex Bogran and Diego Santa Cruz. They all were the key factor in helping us become champions.”

The U16 team played two games on Sept. 15. The first was against Arsenal from Gilbert, which Estudantez won 4-0. The first goal was a penalty kick by Jesus Estudillo. The second goal was made by Paco Hernandez assisted by Estudillo followed by a goal by Jesus Dominguez assisted by Rene Diaz. The fourth goal of the game was made by Benny Guadarrama assisted by Hernandez.
