The Verde Valley Soccer Club’s U11 girls team took home first-place medals in one of the biggest soccer tournaments in Northern Arizona.

The Verde Valley Fusion of the Verde Valley Soccer Club took first place at the Soccer at the Summit tournament in Flagstaff on Sept. 22 and 23. The Fusion won the Girls U11 Silver Bracket before taking the U11 division. They were undefeated throughout the tournament.

The tournament is sanctioned by the U.S. Youth Soccer Arizona class A and G and the Arizona Youth Soccer Association. The tournaments have 11 divisions that are divided by age: from U8 to U18 for girls and for boys. Over 75 teams participated during the girls weekend with the majority of teams coming from around the state.

In its second year as a team, the Fusion dominated the field in its division.

In its first game Saturday, the Fusion defeated the SC Del Sol of Phoenix, 6-1. Marli Urueta started the lead early with a penalty shot.
