Home is Where God Is5 min read

Some people have lived in the same home all of their lives. On the other extreme, some have moved countless times. Some people are without a home sometime; and may be living in someone else’s home, in a shelter, in their car, or on the street.

No matter what circumstance you find yourself in, even if cozy in your own home, perhaps you don’t feel at home…in yourself.

‘They’ say home is where the heart is. Heart is everywhere because God is heart, and God is everywhere. In the desert, God is there. In the ocean God is there. In the mountains, God is there too. In the middle of a crisis, God is. There’s nowhere God isn’t. I’ve heard it said that within 50 feet of a poisonous plant is the antidote. Where there is a challenge, the solution is at hand too.

There are a multitude of ways people think about God. One school of thought is that God is ‘out there’ or can only be reached by prayer. Some were taught that God punishes; if things aren’t going right, ‘I must be a horrible person.’ Another belief is that God is on one group’s team and opposes all other teams. So, if I change teams, will God find me? If another team then convinces me otherwise, do I change again? God is built in to the hearts of all, Within Us; always available for grace, mentoring and forgiveness.

Many people are certain they know God. However, I don’t believe there is only one fit to what God feels like, from person to person. My own understanding is personal, yet shares great similarity in how my friends perceive God in their consciousness, including a constant and aware connection. Perhaps ours would be different than others’ ways. Yet, does anyone really know the whole ‘story?’

In trusting God, I am open to be shown my best path for happy growth in everything I do, like an enthusiastic apprentice admiring my mentor’s work, versus my trying to control people or situations, using the name of God in my favor, based on hardcore laws; some of which are outdated, having been written in less enlightened times, and written by, whom? Written by human people. People with their own, more primitive interpretive perceptions (way back then). We have evolved.

Here’s an example of an outdated law. How many of us use the term, ‘rule of thumb?’ Do you know that law says a man shall not beat his wife with a switch wider than his thumb?

As apprentice, my own work is key. As we grow in experience we hone ourselves. Living from the heart means honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, patience, unconditional loving, and becoming your true and unique self. I don’t believe that God is prejudice in any shape or form. My desire is that all of us be kind to others; not just those who are like us, or who never commit an error (sin means mis-take so try again; re-pent) or those who have power or money to help you.

I believe God gives second, third and ongoing ‘chances’ to us all. And the chances/opportunities are about finding an alternative way to do or perceive things that feel better to the soul (versus one’s ego). This goes for the one making a mistake, and the one who made the mistake of judging the one making a mistake.

If you don’t believe that God is only good, you are perceiving negative, expecting negative and could be adding to the negative, even becoming depressed. Seeing with God’s eyes of only good lifts us out of the old ways of viewing each other, and treating each other, including Ourselves! How many let God’s eyes and ears of good be ours? Watch your heart open wider, feel your soul soar like never before, see the good and growth available in everything , but prepare yourself because living miraculously requires the ability to expect, and live in the natural flow of miracles, so that you realize they are the real reality, not ‘out there.’

Our spiritual mentor is everywhere, without judging, encouraging us to feel better within, by our God-given ability to decipher that, for instance, we might feel more loved if we treat others with love, or that we might live with less fear if we stop taking actions that bring fear to ourselves and others.

Hearing or seeing examples of how we can take a leap of faith and lift ourselves up, are all around us; what we overhear, inner hear, or read, what the radio or tv just showed, or watching and emulating how a seemingly peaceful person acts. See or hear something negative? Put your God spin on it. The Bible does say that in the beginning was the word, and the word was God and the word was good.

My desire is that we all listen to the divine loving guidance within and all around us (…if it’s not unconditional loving direction it’s likely our own learned negative judgments), and I desire that we all notice the markers on our best paths, and that we rest in peace in the living of life each and every moment, knowing all timing is divine, so we can relax, and knowing that all experiences have a great lesson enabling us to evolve in joy.

Ask what the gift is. Even when there is a challenging experience. Ask. Perhaps it won’t be re-experienced over and over, in order for God to tap your shoulder again, hoping you’ll get it this time. Can you expect the miraculous yet? Ah, that ethereal shoulder tap from God that is everywhere, in our heart; our home.
