The Sedona Red Rock High School football team is just one win away from making the state playoffs.
The Scorpions are now 5-3, the best record they have had since 2003, after beating the Chino Valley Cougars [1-7] on Oct. 12 at Chino Valley, 39-30. The Cougars are in Division IV, which is a division higher than the Scorpions.
“Playing against a larger division team on the road and winning is a big step forward for our kids,” said Rick Walsworth, SRRHS head coach. “And still two games to go.”
The Scorpions scored at least six points in every quarter while defense held the Cougars scoreless in the second and third quarters and never allowed the Cougars to take the lead.
Scorpion senior Ryan Ramirez had four touchdowns, including a 38-yard interception return in the beginning of the fourth quarter. He had 20 carries for 119 yards, kicked three touchbacks and successfully made an onside kick in the third quarter.
