The Scorpions volleyball team proved how indestructible it is after it beat a cross-valley rival Oct. 17 on the Scorpions Senior Night. This was the last home game for the girls in the 2012 season.
The Camp Verde High School Cowboys, who are now 9-13 overall and 1-2 in the Division IV Section I conference are now in ninth place while the Sedona Red Rock High School Scorpions, now 29-1 overall, bumped up to the No. 3 spot in the conference with a 5-0 conference record after beating the Cowboys 3-0 on Wednesday night.
With a big, loud group of SRRHS students in the stands, the Scorpions took the lead in the first set with a kill by sophomore McKenna Woodford and two digs by senior Cassie Sanchez.
Some miscommunication on Camp Verde’s side of the net plus Woodford’s killer arm equaled a struggle for any big Cowboy plays.
The Scorpions never allowed the Cowboys to get within five points of them throughout the entire first set as they capitalized on the Cowboys’ numerous small mistakes such as hitting the ball into the net or out of bounds.
Kills by seniors Brenna Barker and Sierra Hatler gave the Scorpions a 25-15 first set victory.
The Cowboys got the first point of the second set with a kill. Sedona quickly answered back and took the lead with points made by senior Sierra Winters and an ace by Barker. However, a Cowboy kill tied it up 4-4 before Camp Verde took the lead 4-5.
