Sedona City Council approved an amendment to the Sedona Community Plan that allows for the expansion of Sky Ranch Lodge, located atop Airport Mesa, during its Tuesday, Oct. 23, regular meeting.

The amendment approval passed with a 6-1 vote. Councilwoman Barbara Litrell voted against the amendment.

Planning and Zoning recommended approval of the amendment during its Sept. 18 meeting.

The decision redesignates 4.6 acres of land for a proposed expansion, including 40 units and a 6,000-square-foot conference center. Sky Ranch Lodge currently occupies 7.3 acres with 94 units available.

The expansion will go before the Planning and Zoning Commission again for zoning approval. Besides the Federal Aviation Administration, plans will also have to be approved by council for zone changes as well.

Litrell said she evaluated the question of whether the expansion of Sky Ranch Lodge is truly needed.
