Sedona Red Rock High School swimmers placed higher they ever in the state swim meet and broke school records along the way.
The boys team placed fifth overall out of 38 teams while the girls placed 20th out of 37 teams at the Arizona Interscholastic Association 2012 Swim and Dive State Tournament on Nov. 3, at the Skyline Aquatics Center in Mesa.
Six school records were also broken: four boys records and two girls records.
“Just fantastic swims this weekend,” said A. Jay Bronson, head swim coach for the Scorpions. “It was one of the proudest meets I can say I have attended as a coach.”

Every event final had the top 16 participants compete.
The boys started off the state meet by winning fifth place in the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Tristan Decker and seniors Hank Svensson, Jacob Decker and Cody Chartier swam a 1:44.64 minute time, about five seconds behind first-place Notre Dame Prep.
Scorpions junior Colin Hurkett placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:52.49 time. The first-place time was 1:42.16. He also placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.46.
Senior Mackena Koss broke Seth Syverstson’s 50-yard freestyle SRRHS record by 0.63 seconds with a 22.68 second time. Koss placed seventh in that event. He also placed sixth in the 100-yard
