Insufficient shoring was likely the cause of the Aug. 14 dome collapse at Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park, according to a forensic engineering report.

The city of Sedona received a report on the dome collapse from forensic engineers Starling Madison Lofquist, the firm hired by the city to look into the incident. According to the report, the collapse is not the result of a design flaw of the dome itself, but likely caused by a lack of temporary shoring while concrete dried at the site.

A tentative Wednesday, Nov. 28, special council meeting is planned to discuss the report. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

“Staff is going to discuss the results of the consultant’s report with council and make some recommendations on where to go from here,” Sedona Assistant City Manager Karen Daines said.

All progress on the Posse Grounds Park project ceased following the collapse. No one was injured even though seven workers were reportedly inside the proposed arts and entertainment structure when it collapsed.

Sedona City Manager Tim Ernster said the special meeting could also be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, depending on how quickly staff can organize the results of the analysis for a presentation.
