Sedona City Council got a look at a conceptual site plan for the Sedona Wetlands during their regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 27.

That conceptual plan includes bird blinds, bridges, a stream and other recreational amenities. Sedona Assistant City Manager Karen Daines told council many of the concepts were not anything the city planned to erect any time soon. “These are all future concepts. It’s not anything that’s going to occur now,” she said.

Parking, picnic tables, signs, shade structures and bathrooms are among the items currently planned under the first phase of work.

“These are the things we are planning to do this year,” Daines said.

Council approved the designation of the Sedona Wetlands as a public park and adopted the official name of Sedona Wetlands Preserve.

“Although the wetlands’ primary purpose has always been as a means of disposal for effluent from the wastewater treatment plant, council has recognized the opportunity this project gives us to create a recreational amenity our citizens and guests can visit and enjoy,” Daines said.
