The Scorpions girls soccer team started the new season in a nail-biting, but exciting fashion.
The girls are 2-0 after beating the Bradshaw Mountain Bears and the Page Sand Devils in the Scorpions’ first two games of the 2012-2013 season. Yet both of those wins were won in double-overtime.
In the season opener at Bradshaw Mountain on Nov. 29, the Scorpions beat the Bears 2-1.
The game was scoreless until Bradshaw Mountain scored a goal in the second half.
In the last 20 seconds of the game, Scorpions senior Cassie Sanchez made a shot from the corner to tie the game, 1-1, forcing overtime.
The first 10-minute overtime was scoreless, but in the second overtime Sanchez scored the winning goal off of a free kick in the last three minutes.
The same scenario played out in the Scorpions’ second game of the season, a 2-1 win over Page at home on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
The Sand Devils were able to score a goal in the first half, but Scorpions senior Jill Bradshaw answered back with a goal assisted by senior Meredith Woodford.
