The Stricklings have added one more basketball program to their jobs, hoping to get more youth involved.

Greg and Jackie Strickling, the boys and girls basketball head coaches at Sedona Red Rock High School, have taken over the Grasshopper Youth Basketball League from the city, and it is now called the G-League.

This is the sixth year the league has been run in Sedona, but it has been restructured to provide a better basketball experience for the youth of the city.

“We want to increase young kids’ involvement, encourage them to play and teach them fundamentals of the game,” Jackie Strickling said. “The high school players are going to be involved so that we can start to build on the gap between the community.”

The league is open to both boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The league held a Pre-Draft camp on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Sedona Red Rock High School. More than 120 kids showed up to showcase and improve their skills of the game. The coaches had stations set up through which groups of kids rotated, but the next camp will be more focused on game play so the high school players can evaluate the skills of the kids.

Kids from Sedona, the Verde Valley and even Flagstaff attended, and any child who wants to learn the sport can participate.
