The National Endowment for the Arts grant would be used to promote Sedona as a community center for arts and education — with various Sedona locations serving as campuses — in a joint collaborative effort that would include educational programming and more.

Sedona inches closer to becoming an international hub for arts education.

Sedona City Council voted to approve support for the Sedona Visioning Group during its Jan. 8 meeting, contributing $25,000 in matching city funds and an additional $8,000 in in-kind funds for efforts to create a city-wide educational arts community.

The city approval allows the Sedona Visioning Group to seek an “Our Town” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts totalling $75,000. The city of Sedona was asked to approve a portion of the matching funds totalling $33,000, with the first payment set for September. An additional $42,000 will also be provided by local organizations to total $75,000 in matching funding.
