The Coyotes’ perfect season came to an abrupt end in the last three seconds of the championship finals.
The Big Park Community School girls basketball team lost by one point in the Arizona Small Schools Girls Basketball Championships Final to the Many Farms Cougars, 37-36, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Clarkdale-Jerome School.
It was the Coyotes’ only loss of the season and the first time a Verde Valley school had made it to the state finals in the 27-year history of the tournament.
With more than a sell-out crowd in the gym, the Coyotes faced competition they hadn’t faced all season when they stepped onto the court with Many Farms. Good teamwork got Big Park a 10-6 lead by the end of first quarter.
