Cyclists speak against closure1 min read

The Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition held a meeting Monday, Feb. 11, to address the issue of a temporary forest order the U.S. Forest Service is considering that would restrict mountain bikes to established system trails.

VVCC President Lars Romig began by talking about how the coalition has partnered with the Forest Service in recent years by helping to plan and maintain trails, and how the Forest Service has recognized the need for increased recreational opportunities for mountain bikers.

“The more we get into working with each other, collaborate and know where we’re going, the better we’re going to work together,” Romig said. “The Forest Service has been seeing this evolution as it’s happened and has stepped up to the plate, and I, personally, in working with the Forest Service have seen a lot of this and experienced it, but it’s hard to get it out to the community how I feel and how I really see it, and I hope that being here tonight that people can see more of that.”

He is a singer and guitarist, an avid cyclist and hiker, and enjoys camping with family and friends.
