Snowed in… in Sedona. Not really. But it is snowing once again, today. I’ve never seen it snow so much here, as this winter, but nonetheless, I’ve never seen so much snow in Sedona that we couldn’t drive anywhere we desire as the roads are generally not an issue. Our accumulation is generally slight in comparison to other locations that get snow. I can’t say the same for the towns that surround us, as they are higher elevation and definitely get snowed in.
I’ve lived in many places: amid blizzards in NJ; up to category 4 hurricanes, and tornadoes in FL; as well as earthquakes in San Francisco. Some summers I’ve walked outside in thick humidity where we all began dripping like a water faucet, immediately, and in other places literally felt on fire just walking from the car in a parking lot to the door of a store.
Weather outside may be frightful, but inside by the fire so delightful, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Have you taken as much notice of the weather inside? Inside your own body? We have a thermostat called the thyroid, which we received from a higher power, giving us the gift of being automatically temperature regulated.
But sometimes our cheeks heat up and turn red when we are embarrassed, the center of attention in a funny story being told, or receiving a flirtation. Sometimes we feel on fire when we become angry, or sweaty before taking a risk. Some reactions are bodily controlled, yet others, like anger, are within our power to control.
Would you like to feel more authentic personal power? One way to feel power is to throw your anger around generously, spewing bits of fire around you, hurting others’ pride, or generating fear. Yet another is to consciously curb your anger. Which do you think resembles an animal reaction and requires no effort on your part? Where’s the power in that?
When facing a challenging situation, and obvious to others, pacing your breathing through it, consciously choosing words that won’t be regrettable, and maybe taking a break to calm down and return to the event later, that can be viewed as heroic and masterful. Which do you think would impress others more? A powerful imprint was made.
In pacing one’s self, rather than ‘flying off the handle,’ we give ourselves a bit more time to really assess a situation, and possibly deem it not worth getting angry about.
Some have been taught to fear God; that by one’s unreligious acts or thoughts, the rage of a vengeful God will hurt them. It’s one thing to moderate our behaviors to feel good about our loving acts, and it’s another thing to believe that mistakes bring the house down.
The Bible reminds us that, it is done unto us as you believe. If you believe what you’ve been taught about fearing wrath of our higher power, guess what you might see in your experience.
I, and many, believe God is only good, like a shaft of white light, and that one’s beliefs other than that, are simply dark devilish thinking, out of the light; but that God forgives mis-takes, only wanting us to re-pent, i.e. re-shoot for the bullseye, take another take, to practice, learn, grow and evolve from missing the mark.
I do believe in living prepared, so let it snow. What you believe about snow may be different than what another thinks. It’s a chance to be still, appreciate life being still, admire the beauty of all you usually see being covered in white; realize a higher power changed the usual into a wonderland.
If the power is temporarily out, sit closer to each other in cozy blankets, tell stories and play word games with your actual voice, instead of being in separate rooms playing video games by yourself or on facebook typing to the virtual world. Warm the water and food on sterno or a grill in the fireplace and appreciate firelight.
Snow dona worry, be happy. You can count up what you don’t want, or you can count your blessings. The power of creation is the same behind both; we’ll get the experience of what we focus on. It is done unto us as we believe. We have been given the Power to choose.
