When Dave Singer stepped down from his position as volunteer Bicycle Coordinator for the city of Sedona at the end of 2012, some might have wondered if local cyclists would still have an advocate ready to white knuckle the obstacle course of city politics for them.
Singer, after all, was instrumental in getting bike lanes installed along State Route 89A, and bike routes on Thunder Mountain Road and Sanborn Drive; and in getting Sedona designated as a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
But not to worry, new Sedona volunteer Bicycle Coordinator Doug Copp, who took over the position Jan. 1, has seamlessly transitioned into the job. Copp, a native Arizonan and 19-year Verde Valley resident, is vice president of the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition and a member of the Mountain Bike Advisory Committee and the Sedona Bicycle Advisory Committee. An avid cyclist, Copp was also the principle author of the Sedona Bicycle Plan, which was adopted by the Sedona City Council in April 2007.
