While the Sedona Red Rock High School girls tennis team is in the middle of a rebuilding year with a number of beginners, the boys tennis team has become victorious in the majority of tight matches so far this season.

The boys team is now 5-1 as the season reaches the midpoint. The boys most recently beat the Prescott Badgers 5-4 on Thursday, March 28. The highlight of the match was senior Max Mascolo winning a tie-breaker in his singles match.

“It was close like that throughout the entire match,” boys Head Coach Duane Edwards said. “They all played very well and each match this season has come down to the wire.”

Edwards emphasized every one of his players has been playing great and contributing to the Scorpions’ wins. A big part of that comes from the senior leadership.

The No. 1 through No. 4 spots are all filled with seniors. Cody Chartier, Steven Sundberg, Mascolo and Hank Svennson have influenced the younger players on and off the courts with winning attitudes.
