Lone senior hits home run in last home game1 min read

Senior Haley Davis runs for home during her home run hit, the first ever in her career, during Senior Night and the softball's last home game of the season at Sedona Red Rock High School

In the last home game of the season for the Scorpions, which was also celebrated as Senior Night, the only senior on the team, Haley Davis, hit her first-ever home run to help the Scorpions win over their divisional and cross-valley rivals.

The Sedona Red Rock softball team [5-7] beat the Camp Verde Cowboys [6-7], 9-8 on Friday, April 12, at Sedona Red Rock High School in front of a big crowd — and they made senior night an exciting one.

Scorpions Pitcher Emily aitken delivers one of her wind-up pitches during Sedona’s 9-8 win Saturday, April 12, over the Camp Verde Cowboys. The Scorpions’ next game will be Tuesday, April 16.The overconfident Cowboys had the lead until the Scorpions surprised them with their hitting in a fifth-inning seven-run burst. The Cowboys came back within one run and were in a scoring position, but the Scorpions ended the game with a strikeout.

“It’s a big win for us,” SRRHS Head Coach John Parks said. “It was defense, defense, defense. We made all of the catches. Really, this is a game of catch and if you catch the ball, you will be in most games. So we did a nice job of catching the ball today, made all of the big outs and then we got some clutch hits.”
